"Potato nose"

"पडलो तरी नाक वर" अशी एक "म्हण" मराठीत आहे. तशीच "दारू प्यालो म्हणून नाक वर(whisky nose, rum nose, wine nose, strawberry nose and brandy nose)" असा "Rhinophyma" नावाचा एक रोग बाॅइडने वर्णन केलेला आहे.या रोगात नाक "बटाट्या" सारखे फताडे होत जाते व दारू प्यायली की ते हळूहळू नुकत्याच तळलेल्या खरपूस बटाटेवड्या सारखे लाल व खडबडीत देखील होत जाते.बाॅइड सरांनी जर मला आधी विचारले असते तर या अशा नाकाचे वर्णन मी "बटाटा" ऐवजी "बटाटेवडा" असेच केले असते.

Rhinophyma is a skin disorder characterized by a large, red, bumpy or bulbous nose. It can occur as part of phymatous rosacea. The exact cause of rhinophyma is unknown, but it's considered a subtype of severe rosacea. This condition is significantly more common in men, especially between the ages of 50 to 70 years.There is hypertrophy of sebaceous glands of nasal tip in rhinophyma.

बाॅइड सरांना असाच "बटाटा" आठवला तो "carotid body tumor" हा मानेतला बटाट्यासारखा खडबडीत "carotid body tumor(paraganglioma)" पाहून !
