HIV च्या भारतातील आगमनाने भारतीय रक्तसेवेमधे प्रचंड उलथापालथ घडवून आणली.भारतीय संस्कृतीमधे निषिध्द मानला गेलेला "संभोग" हा विषय चव्हाट्यावर आला व रक्तदान शिबिरांमधून रक्तदात्यांना त्याबद्दल सखोल विचारणा करणे भाग पडले.HIV Testing च्या मर्यादा लक्षात घेता त्याला पर्यायच नव्हता.

बर्‍याच रक्तपेढ्यांमधे या गोष्टीकडे(Proper Blood Donor Selection & Predonation Counselling) दुर्लक्ष केले जात असे.आला रक्तदाता असा सहजासहजी सोडणार कोण ? या प्रवृत्तीमुळे वारंवार रक्त भरून घ्यावे घेणारे अनेक थॅलेसेमियाग्रस्त विविध रक्तसंक्रमित विकारांना(HBsAg, HIV, HCV इ.) बळी पडले.

अशा रूग्णांच्या बाजूने दिल्लीची "Lawyers Collective" ही ॲड.आनंद ग्रोव्हर यांची संघटना ठामपणे उभी राहिली. त्यांनी थेट सुप्रीम कोर्टात केंद्र शासनावरच "दावा" ठोकला.

तेव्हा मी भारतीय रक्तपेढी संघटनेचा (Indian Socirty of Blood Transfusion & Immunohaematology -ISBTI) "राष्ट्रीय सचिव" या नात्याने केंद्र शासनाचा रक्तसेवा विषयक "सल्लागार" असल्याने ॲड.आनंद ग्रोव्हर यांनी मला सर्वोच्च न्यायालयात येऊन न्यायाधीशांच्या फुल बेंचसमोर निवेदन करण्याचे आशाहन केले.माझ्या आयुष्यातला हा सर्वात मोठा "समरप्रसंग" होता.तो मी लेखी निवेदन देऊन निभावला व त्यामुळे देशाचे एडस् विषयक धोरण तसेच रक्तपेढीविषयक कायदे बनवायला खूप मदत झाली.या मदतीची जाण ठेवून ॲड.आनंद ग्रोव्हर माझ्या आमंत्रणाला मान देऊन ISBTI Conferences मधे "सल्लागार" म्हणून हजेरी लावू लागले.ज्यांना ॲड.आनंद ग्रोव्हर यांचा परीचय नाही त्यांना अल्प परीचय देतो.जरूर वाचा.

1.Anand Grover is a senior lawyer known for legal activism in Indian law relating to homosexuality and HIV.

2.He is a founder-member of the "Lawyers Collective".

3.He was the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to health from August 2008 to July 2014.

4.He is currently and acting member of the Global Commission on Drug Policy.

5.He pleaded the repeal of Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which was a law criminalizing homosexuality in India.

6.He fought a court case against "Novartis" on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights which would determine the patent status of antiretroviral drugs in India. The result of the case was that the Lawyers Collective prevailed and certain drugs became ineligible for patenting, thus keeping the price of the medications in line with generic medication costs.

7.On the night before Yakub Memon was scheduled to be executed, Anand Grover intervened to postpone his execution.

8.Grover is a member of the UNAIDS Reference Group on HIV and Human Rights and a Special Rapporteur in the United Nations Human Rights Council. His duty in this position is to promote the right to physical and mental health.

या प्रसंगातून मी एक बोध घेतला.तुमचे कार्य जर चांगले असेल तर त्याला जगभरातून मान्यता मिळाल्याशिवाय रहात नाही.
